The Story Behind The Blog

I have been in Austin for over half a decade now, and I absolutely love the city. I find that it is so unique and offers something for everyone.

As we looked toward a new decade, a goal of mine was to get out, try new things and see what Austin has to offer that I hadn’t yet discovered. I find myself always going back to my local favorites, and while they are excellent, there is no harm in trying something new.

I am a realtor here in Austin, and clients are always asking for suggestions on what to do around town. So, I thought I would blog about my experiences, recommendations and what you have to do before you can call yourself a true Austinite.

These are all my opinions, and I am by no means an expert on most things discussed here (well, maybe when it comes to Mexican food and margaritas – I know a thing or two).

I hope you enjoy the journey as I blog for 365 days and discover something about the city that is new to you. I am always open to suggestions as a year’s worth of activities is a big list to compile.  It has only been two months, but it has been so much fun, and I have already learned so much.

As always, it’s a great day to be alive in Austin, Texas.

Hey, this is the kind of online content I find really useful.
Elementary structure, common events that really have an effect on our habits.
Great work Kristy, I’ve subscribed it or Goggle reader to get up to speed with the city.
I’m going to Austin for 4 months, beginning next September. Maybe I’ll stay 4 years, who knows

My Red Hat chapter sponsors an annual Bluebonnet Train Ride; This is something that the women of Austin can participate in annually. Our next trip is April 10th with the Austin Steam Train Association. Just FYI on something that can be done in Austin!

City Wide Garage Sale happens about once a month or so, and it’s a pretty fun shopping experience at the Palmer Events Center. It’s mostly vintage or antique/collectibles, but it’s a big space with a lot of cool stuff.

I moved here from Nashville 12 years ago and at first I thought the two cities were very similar–especially because of their common interest in music. However, the two cities could not be more different. Fasten your seat belt–Austin is comparatively more progressive, more liberal, healthier, more open minded, more edgy and far more interesting. Keep an open mind, stay out of judgement, explore all there is to see and do and you will find Austin the best city you ever lived in!!

        Hi Larry,
I love Austin! I cannot imagine calling another city home! We are so lucky to live here.

Hello, I like your blog, gives me some ideas! I’m planning on launching a site next year that will have nearly the same theme…fun, but specific to nightlife and not specific to Austin…however Austin is where I’ll start cuz I live here. Anyways I was wondering if you’ve ever thought of selling ad space? I have an auto glass business and would love to have an ad or article here, however I realize my business isn’t really a “fun” destination! (Although a ton of people end up getting their cars broken into when they are out having fun ((sadly)) Anyways let me know!

    Happy blogging!

One of the great things about Austin is its strong community of slam poets. A poetry slam is a competition where 12 poets compete to win $100. The judging is done by the audience and the competition can get really intense. It’s a super fun evening. Expect cheering, boo-ing, and sometimes a sing-a-long! The Austin Poetry Slam is on Tuesday nights at the United States Art Authority. This is a good time, in a warm and welcoming environment. It’s a “Keep Austin Weird” way to spend a week night out.

Great stuff. I’m originally from Minneapolis and have been stuck in SC and FL for the last year and am looking to settle down in Austin because I miss that sense of fun and creativity. I haven’t had a chance to visit yet and won’t be moving for a year but with a heads up from the blog, I think I can move to Austin sight unseen. I look forward to becoming an Austinite.
