40.11 Hoffbrau Steaks

February 9, 2011

It’s Weird Weather Wednesday, and we might be looking at a night in the low 20’s. It’s chilly, so why not step inside and eat today at an Austin classic?

Hoffbrau is a pretty simple steakhouse. They’ve been serving up steaks in Austin since 1934, and I’m guessing not much has changed since then. This is unique Austin dining at its best. They don’t even have menus. Only a place that’s been up and running for nearly a century could pull off “no menu.”

Their steaks come absolutely smothered in this buttery garlic sauce that makes them one of a kind. While I normally opt for the sirloin, I go t-bone at Hoffbrau for some reason. The meal comes with potato wedges that are worthy of a small crime and an awesome salad. I’m not even much of a salad person, but enough garlic (in a good way) can make anything slide right down.

There is some kind of charm that comes with this place, and it definitely takes you back to old-time Austin.

Speaking of places to eat — all you guys out there that haven’t made reservations for Valentines Day, you’d better get on it!

Happy Birthday to my friend Megan, here is to another year of great adventures!
