35.11 The Matchmaker Band at Speakeasy

February 4, 2011

Despite this irregular arctic blast, it’s still a Friday night in Austin, Texas. I recently discovered The Matchmaker Band, and they are incredible. They’re a local 10-piece Motown cover band that will take you back in time.

This is my favorite type of live music. I love oldies, the way you can just dance and sing along with all those classic songs. Every time I see a Motown band it’s a guaranteed good time. This is a band all ages will enjoy. Something about big horn sections makes it that much better. They’re so good, my friend just booked them for a private party.

If the weather is just too much for you, they recently started playing at Speakeasy every Thursday night. Check them out:

While talking about Speakeasy, it’s a great place for live music. It’s my go-to place when I have out-of-town friends. It’s one of those places you can always count on for a good time. While it’s chilly tonight, when the weather is warmer their upstairs terrace is great for city views and late-night dance parties!

Special shout out to my father, “The Sky King,” who decided to carry out his lifelong dream of getting his pilot’s license. He had his first solo flight this week, and I am so proud of him! He’s a great role model to our family about following dreams and passions. Love you, Dad.
