23.11 Free Cooking Class at Williams Sonoma

January 23, 2011

So one of my New Year’s Resolutions was “learn to cook” and I must admit that I have not been doing that great of job at the “learning” part. I figured by learning to cook I would stop eating out so much; meanwhile taking a step to being somewhat domestic. After I emailed various “foodies” in Austin for suggestions someone suggested I check out these classes at William Sonoma. Let me tell you that cooking classes do not come cheap so checking out what Williams Sonoma has to offer seems like my best bet to get started.

Today’s topic is Fresh & Fast – Pasta, naturally it features making fast and healthy pasta! Each week the topic changes so check because next week to see what is planned for February.

While talking about cooking if anyone has any other suggestions for my quest to learn to cook I am open for places that I can learn for not too much money!

I’m trying to learn some new kitchen tricks too, so I appreciate this tip! I also wanted to let you know about what I’ve been doing to get some bargain culinary classes. The North Lamar Central Market has a volunteer program that allows you to earn credit to apply to cooking classes. It’s sometimes a lot of work – you usually have to arrive a few hours before the start of class to do prep work, then you serve food and do dishes during the class and clean up afterward. But if you’re interested in the topic of the class and enjoy kitchen work, I think it’s a good deal. After volunteering for 2 classes, you get one $45 credit to use at the culinary school.

I used one of my credits for a braising class the other night. Now I’m going to practice my pot roast. 🙂

      Autumn,
Thank you so much for your suggestions! I had no idea about this program so I definitely want to check into it. I have learned that learning to cook does not come cheap! Good luck with your pot roast!
