362. Gourdough’s

December 28, 2010

I can’t believe it’s the last Trailer Tuesday of the year!

I’ve mentioned Gourdough’s several times, but I realized that it hasn’t been an official list item. That, my friends, is truly a crime. A visit here and you’ll think you’ve died and gone to donut heaven.

These are donuts like you’ve never seen, and the flavors are beyond imagination. Deciding what to order really just depends on how far out there you’re willing to go.

They have incredibly unique flavors for donut-lovers like peanut butter and jelly, and some options that would make any cardiologist lose sleep at night. Take the mother clucker, which is a donut with a fried chicken strip and honey butter. Bacon lovers, the flying pig has your name all over it. It’s bacon with maple syrup icing. And of course they have something for everyone’s sweet tooth. Try the black out. It’s brownie batter with fudge icing and chocolate covered brownie bites. If you can’t find something on their menu that’s worth a try, you probably just don’t like donuts.

While most would associate donuts with breakfast, this stop is more of a lunch/late night place. They don’t open until late morning, but they’re open late (sometimes even 3 a.m.)

This little trailer eatery is one of my favorites in the city. Not much beats the combination of Odd Duck and Gourdough’s – two top-notch stops in the Austin trailer food scene. After one visit you will be absolutely hooked. My body shudders to think at the calorie count, but it’s worth it.

And, Happy 90th Birthday Grandma. Cannot wait to celebrate Owen Style tonight!
