296. Viva La Vida Fest: 27th Annual Dia De Los Muertos Festival

October 23, 2010

This annual festival is one to get excited about, and Austin knows how to put together a good party! Today basically combines all the things I love into one big party – Torchy’s Tacos, dance competitions and, drum roll please…. a costume contest!

Although we’re still a week away from the actual “Day of the Dead,” this is always an awesome celebration. And like all good celebrations, this event will feature tons of live music, food, dancing, drinks, and arts and crafts. The main stage will have a variety of live music playing all day. What might be my favorite part of the day is the costume contest. The contest will take place from 7:30-8:30, and this year it’s bigger and badder than ever. For full costume contest information visit their website. I love dressing up for any occasion. It always makes celebrating so much more fun. By dusk, the street becomes a people-packed scene with singing, dancing, painted faces and teveryone celebrating a vibrant culture!

In contrast to yesterday’s scary adult-friendly House of Torment, today’s activities are very family-friendly, and there will be plenty of fun for the little ones.

When: Today Time: 2 p.m.-10 p.m.

Free Admission

Mexic-Arte Museum
419 Congress Ave.
Austin, Texas
