214. McKinney Falls

August 2, 2010

Here I go again. I’m profiling more Austin treasures you may want to visit before school gets back in session! McKinney Falls is always a weekend “hot spot,” so I figured a Monday would be good time to put this on your radar.

This is another true piece of heaven right here in Central Austin. Believe it or not, McKinney Falls is actually closer to downtown Austin than the airport. The 744.4-acre park offers a variety of short hikes, and its falls provide a truly blissful oasis.

It’s hard to believe this serene State Park is so close to the hustle and bustle of downtown Austin. They have over 80 campsites, plenty of fishing spots and several hiking and biking trails. You’ll even see a variety of wildlife such as, white-tailed deer, raccoons, armadillos, squirrels and numerous birds, according to the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department’s website.

It’s definitely the place to go if you need to relax, unwind and become one with nature!
