128. German-Texan Heritage Society’s 15th Annual Maifest

May 8, 2010

This one goes out to you Taylor, often you are my better half.. here is your day a complete festival celebrating your German Heritage – the only thing more German might be Wurstfest. I will say this, the one things that German’s do know are beautiful blonds and beer – two things most people cannot get enough of so why not join the party.

This daylong family festival has something for everyone including a magic show, yodel lessons,  Marionette shows, kite making, scavenger hunt, face painting and much, much more. The much more includes delicious bratwurst, sauerkraut, potato salad, apple strudel and my favorite part, big pretzels!

Plus and I am sure the most important part of the day, plenty of beer tasting! By now we all know that I am absolutely not a beer expect so I just have to by what I am told or research tells me. So apparently for those that know stuff about beer the tasting will include:
Spaten Lager (Helles in German)
Fransikaner Hefeweisen (Weise)
Spaten Dark Lager (Munchen Dunkel)
Spaten Bock (Maibock)
Spaten’s Maibock is a strong beer brewed in the springtime for Maifest celebrations. 2010 is the last year Maibock will be sold in the USA.

Sounds like the perfect little Saturday if you ask me – who doesn’t love a little German Folk Music and a Maypole (I had a bad experience on stage with a Maypole in elementary school so I don’t want to get into Maypole activities).
