106. Austin Reggae Festival

April 16, 2010

To start off this is not for everyone but I cannot make everyone happy, everyday. Austinites seeking family activities do not forget the “Mighty Texas Dog Walk” is Tomorrow – I cannot wait, world record here we come.

Bob Marley lovers . . . I hear this is your weekend.  I must admit I had never heard the song, “Red, Red, Wine” until recently when I was watching VH1 and it was on some countdown. Anyways – this is weekend that is actually formally known as “Bob Marley Festival.”

One a year Austinites take part in this Bob Marley Extravaganza – apparently this is a festival embodying all things “Austin” so as far as I am concerned why not embrace it! Like yesterday this too is the 17th Annual  Festival, it seems to be a pretty big Austin Tradition and when I drove by last night things seemed like they were in full set up mode. I thought they were setting up for the “Mighty Texas Dog Walk” but I was wrong, after I second drive though later in the evening I realized it was for the Reggae Fest.

This is more than a music festival, enjoy great food, arts, crafts and anything “Bob Marley-ish…..”

One of the main reasons I decided to feature them is because some of the proceeds benefit the Capital Area Food Bank and in my book that is a slam dunk. Last year they raised enough money to benefit over 690,000 hungry families in Central Texas . On a personal note, I always feel like people contribute so much more to the food banks to during the holiday season and with the hot days of summer coming up it is important to remember that they need help all year long!

On top of being a “Bob Marley” Tribute weekend – it does really embrace Austin so why not enjoy it.

Tickets: $15.00 CASH ONLY

I am not live music fanatic so I cannot speak to the bands that are playing so if you have an opinion of what days are the best to partake please share!
