71. SXSW

March 12, 2010

Where do I even start – South by Southwest is a three part – a interactive, film, music festival city wide takeover every year in March. As well as one of the luckiest times to call yourself an Austintie because as far as things that are Austin this is it. Today marks the start of the 2010 SXSW Festival, I hope you are ready.

It is one of the largest music festivals in the nation bringing in people from all over the world. Shows are everywhere from bars downtown to Auditorium Shores. SXSW started in 1987 and is now the highest producing special event for the Austin economy.

The city overflows with things going on. It is not just music and film, the city comes alive with everything – there really is something for everyone. I happen to be excited about The American Apparel Factory Flea Market, http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=363185902145!

Another list item that you must take part in before you can call yourself and Austinite. For those of you who watched the Real World Austin – the cast’s job was to make a documentary on a band during SXSW.

I am not an expert at all so please those that have pointers – must see shows, parties, ect.  leave comments to help fill me in.

Their website is a good place to start as far as an overview. iPhone users download their app, http://wristband.sxsw.com/node/4415 to make things easier on you. It is your go to place for the schedule, maps, news, ect.

Trivia Fact: Twitter was launched in 2007 at SXSW!  The tipping point for Twitter’s popularity was the 2007 SXSW, during the event usage went from 20,000 tweets per day to 60,000!
