65. Volunteer At A City Park

March 6, 2010

Its My Park Day – an annual community service day focused on improvements to Austin’s park system.  Austin’s parks around town offer something for everyone so we need to keep help in keeping them clean! Everything from the Zilker Kite Festival to ACL to Eeyore’s Birthday happens at city parks around town!

Austin has 67 park improvement projects scheduled today with over 1,900 volunteers signed up- but guess what? They still need at least 1000 more people to come out today and “love your park” for just a few hours!

Among the projects needing the most assistance are:
• Pease Park (Kingsbury near Lamar) #53. http://365thingsaustin.com/2010/02/21/52-pease-park/
• Zilker Preserve (west of Mopac)
• Turkey Creek Trail (Emma Long Park, City Park Rd.)
• Gus Garcia Park (Rundberg east of I-35)
• Colorado River Preserve @ Montopolis Bridge

What should I bring with me?

Wear sunscreen, a hat, and sturdy shoes. Bring a refillable water bottle, if you have one. Bring work gloves if you have them. Your project leader may request you bring tools – be sure to read their emails as the event day approaches.

Help Keep Austin Clean!
