41. Take a Pedicab Ride

February 10, 2010

So today I am recommending something that I think everyone should experience one in their life, a pedicab ride. In light of Valentine’s Day I was going to recommend a Horse Drawn Carriage Ride through downtown but I thought a pedicab experience was more practical, far less romantic but much more Austin.

I am sure we all have had our own experiences with these convenient bike taxis that take us from one end of downtown to the other all for probably under $10. The last time I happened to be on one I guess we were just too much for the little guy as he fell of his bike TWICE (literally, body slammed the concrete)  as he was trying to get us from one end of Sixth Street to the other.  After the second round of more laugher than was appropriate we decided to walk to rest of the way but none the less it was a good story.

In an effort to appeal to all of you that are “Green” out there – taking a pedicab is better on the environment than a motorized vehicle.

Even if you just randomly do it once, enjoy the ride. When my friends come in from out of town they always get such a kick out of riding them as I guess not all cities offer such transportation.

For those of you who just do not feel comfortable winging it and grabbing the next available one you see downtown you can set up a “scenic tour” of Lady Bird Lake, Downtown, or the UT Campus. They also offer the Red Devil Wine tasting tour but that is going to run you about $70.00. All those seeking to take pedi-cabbing in Austin to the next level visit: http://www.reddevilrides.com/ and explore all the options available.  Here, http://www.capitalpedicab.com/  is another group around town that is in the pedicab business – they give back and are involved with meals on wheels, so they are Green and Give Back to the community! What a deal.
