37. Austin Zoo

February 6, 2010

It’s a great day to get outside and do something different and enjoy the sun, that’s why today I am suggesting the Austin Zoo and Animal Sanctuary.

The Austin Zoo has over 300 animals and 100 different species. It is definitely no San Diego Zoo by any means, not even your traditional Zoo – I have to say that it is probably more of an animal sanctuary. It is very small, peaceful, and “quaint.” I think that it is a great opportunity to get out of the house and enjoy the great outdoors.

For those looking to volunteer, they are always looking for help with landscaping, cleaning, administration, animal care, education and more.

You are welcome to bring your own food and drinks.

Children (ages 2-12) $5.00
Adults $8.00
Students (with Student ID) $6.00
Military (with Military ID) $6.00
Grandparents/Seniors $6.00
Member Guest $5.00
Animal Food (Goats, Sheep, and Deer) $1.00

They are open daily from 10:00-6:00pm.

The Zoo is located in South Austin at:
10807 Rawhide Trail
Austin, Texas 78736

After leaving the Austin Zoo I wanted to call the SPCA because those animals looked depressed and the conditions that they were in were horrendous..the worst I have ever seen.
